PROGRAM INFORMATIONPrerequisites: High school diploma or GED; meet program criteria on Workforce Training Assessment. Program Requirements: Must have physical examination and immunizations completed prior to starting in clinical externship; must have current liability insurance to begin clinical externship; complete criminal records check through MVCTC Security. Courses: Anatomy & Physiology, Math for Health Care Professionals, Communications, Medical Ethics & Law, Office Procedures, Introduction to Computers, Pharmacology, Nutrition, Growth and Development, Clinical Externships, Job Seeking Skills Certification: After graduation, applicants may complete the certifying examination for Medical Assistant (CMA).

Medical Assistants perform routine administrative and clinical tasks in the offices and clinics of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, and optometrists. Clinical duties vary according to each state, but generally include taking medical histories and vital signs, drawing blood, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, and assisting the physician during the examination.This Medical Assisting program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), on recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation for Medical Assistant Education.
