Aircraft mechanics and engine specialists perform scheduled maintenance, make repairs, and complete inspections required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Mechanics often work under time pressure to maintain flight schedules. These technicians may work for airlines, a corporation, at a repair station, or for one of the aviation manufacturers as a field technical representative. A maintenance technician who also holds a pilot rating may be employed as a flight engineer or a pilot mechanic.
